Change your Words. Change your World.
Children are sponges and they are amazing at not only understanding words and language at an early age, but also the context of those words.
Even 'Buddy the Elf' used ginormous words :)
Interesting article written based on a University of Chicago study, "The Early Catastrophe" on what a tremendous impact words have on children .
Eighty-six percent to 98 percent of the words recorded in each child's vocabulary consisted of words also recorded in their parents' vocabularies.
Use good descriptive words both verbally and written and your child's vocabulary will grow exponentially.
Interaction is the best form of action

You Got This, Principles of Parenting

You Got This!
If there are only three words you ever say to a child, I would recommend "You Got This"
A positive comment, which goes a long way in a child’s life. Anything you say or do becomes a habit and a natural response. That goes equally with a negative response. So when Nicholas was growing up I always minded my words. And what really stuck with me was a very simple phrase “You got this!”
So what do you think will happen if you say to your child instead of “You got this” to “You better pass” “You better get an A” “You better make a goal in soccer” “You better win the game.” Use your words wisely and keep them positive. Because as much as it’s easy to do, it’s also easy not to do. Words have amazing power with not only children but with teens and adults too. Children are amazing and they will use your words, your influence and your example to form their own persona.
I hadn’t realized until that day how much influence I had on my child. By being empathetic, positive, patient and keeping a consistent message I had created a pathway for Nicholas.

Persist Until you Succeed
Real life evolution by bringing the ocean and the interests of my son to fruition.
Expect that if want your child to try something new or old or different, you should be prepared to try it yourself.
Because we never surrender, we never give-up.
"We persist until we succeed". Og Mandino.
Scuba Diving taught us not only to rely on each other, but that there is a whole other world beneath the sea.
It was almost like we were living in an adventure movie, it was like Indiana Jones underwater...wow, that was amazing.

Art Appreciation
The importance of Art and the impact it has on personal growth, not to mention it's a great outlet to just let go!
Blue Dogs by George Rodrique was our beginning. So striking and yet so simple.
“What I do know,” Rodrigue says, “is that Blue Dog, in some form or another, will remain a presence in the hearts of the people who have come to know her – and, I hope, in the hearts of all those who may join Blue Dog in her journeys yet to come”. So I took that to mean Blue Dog could take the form in the students imagination.
"Each one an original, each one a snowflake"
"The creativity was oozing out without even a thought to interrupt the process. It was absolutely spectacular."
Tom Brokaw says: “Any appreciation of art is a subjective experience. If it moves you, lingers after you’ve walked away, makes you laugh, or simply infuses you with a good feeling, it passes the test. Blue Dog does all that. And like the best of dogs, whatever their color, she asks nothing in return. Blue dog is a reminder that there are some things in life that we should just accept on their own terms and never take for granted.”
I loved the initiative of the students. They were truly blossoming with the “new way” Art Appreciation was taking form.
Chihuly had an exhibit called: The Nature of Glass.
Ansel Adams photography impacted the students who could decide if they wanted their photographs in the Gardens to be in Colour or in Black and White.
What was truly interesting was how unique each student captured the beauty of the desert. The beauty of the desert plants in concert with the reflection of the glass works. The glass works are works of art.

Thank you Nicholas, my sweet son, for your awesome music composition for the show. And remember how art always makes you feel.
Maya Angelou has a fantastic inspirational quote: “People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel”. So true

Talent Needs Attention
In this episode we discuss the importance of knowing your child's learning technique and how I supplemented my own child's learning by honing in on his strengths and weakness'. A few quotable quotes from today's show:
"Talent, needs (ed) unwavering attention, dedication and devotion."
"Time, energy and patience ... ensure ... the proper way to do things."
Einstein says, “Example isn’t another way to teach, it’s the only way to teach.”
"You are their leader, their coach, their mentor and their lab assistant. So pay attention, experiment, discover from your child which learning style works best for them."
"No one size fits all when it comes to learning."
"I put the words he had to learn, into his world. "
"We all learn in pictures"
"Ultimate achievement."
Together we will reach a global community on how to Nurture, Coach and Inspire the children we love, at any age, develop their Genius and to let it Flourish.
We are all born with a gift;
We are all born with purpose.
Life’s journey is to hone and develop that gift;
As purpose changes within.
“Imagination is more important than Knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”

Nurture, Coach, Inspire
When it comes to school, you need to be involved. You need to be in the know and you need to be the backpack hound. When your children enter school age, your job is truly beginning. Yes those first 5 years are vital as you nurture your wee one. You have set the foundation, now the building blocks are ready to go on top. School teachers are just that, teachers. And it takes more than one to guide them through the next 12+ years.
Children do not lack capacity to learn but they do lack enough teachers.
To supplement my child’s education with my own knowledge and resources. Think of it as frosting on a cake, the final touch that pulls the creation together.
We were in a dream land at his school. In grade 1 the curriculum already integrated a second language to learn.
The first time I sat in a classroom of 35 kids in grade 2, was the first time I realized not all schools are created equal.
The Pygmalion Effect was a study done by Rosenthal and Jacobsen in the 60’s which shows that teacher expectations influence student performance. Positive expectations influence performance positively, and negative expectations influence performance negatively. Quite simple really. And it actually works.
So when Nicholas’ Grade 2 teacher told me that it didn’t matter that the students were at polar opposites because no child would be left behind, so don’t worry, don’t worry.
Gifted? What does that mean?
My instinct was dead on. But the insight needed work and needed some thought behind it in order to reach a successful outcome.
So get involved, volunteer, volunteer at school, speak up when you have concerns in a gracious manner but don’t take no for an answer until you have a viable solution. And do it often, it just may change your life as a result. The opportunities for your child are endless.
Today’s inspirational quote is from Einstein;
“Weakness of Attitude, Becomes Weakness of Character”

There's Magic in Sand
Even if it meant borrowing a tent that would fit all 7 of us as we drove 8 hours to warm waters edge all while hoping that the bears we fed along the way wouldn’t follow us.
There’s something magical about sand. It can be in your backyard, school yard, lake or by the ocean and it has no limitations on entertainment value. Add a little water and voila, you can shape it. Add a little seaweed and you can make a mermaid come to life with beautiful flowing hair. Add a few more people and all of a sudden you are making a ginormous turtle or magical castle with globby trees, all made out of sand. The really cool part is that our magical creations became a tradition. We could hardly wait to get to the beach and dig in.
Children are amazing and so awe inspiring. They drink in their surroundings and the wonder of nature. Exploring and discovering the world around them.
The secret to staying young is to have this perfect cover for acting like a kid again and no ones the wiser. An amazing thing happens to you and your imagination. Or at least all of these things did for me, it was reignited.
You will glow with pride not to mention all those excellent ‘selfie’ opportunities. You can take all the pictures you want at the beach and leave only footprints behind. We let our technology serve us and not let it invade our precious beach time. After all, the only surfing you should do at the beach is on the waves.

Hindsight is 20-20, Principles of Parenting
Monday Aug 19, 2019
Monday Aug 19, 2019
Hindsight is the ability to understand an event or situation only after its happened.
The ability to understand, to understand, I think that’s key. It’s only effective if you actually digest what you have learned and realize that hindsight can be very powerful for our future endeavours. When my baby Genius was evolving, before he was even one year old, he showed strong development, which to be honest at the time, I didn’t realize. He never crawled. Just went from the carrier one day to walking one day; or so it feels that way.
My child is not an inconvenience. Your child is not an inconvenience. No child is an inconvenience. Pay attention and they will amaze you. Know that nurturing and caring for your child is always the right thing to do. Being a devoted parent is an admirable characteristic that children get inspired by. It means that you are dedicated to their well being, wholeheartedly.
Together we will reach the global community, around the world, with a common interest in Nurturing, Coaching and Inspiring the children we love, at any age, to develop their Genius and to let it Flourish
The Dalai Lama says “The enemy is a very good teacher.” That’s hindsight.

Before my baby genius was even born. That’s when I first discovered my Intuition. I had no idea that super power was in me, is in all of us, and we just have to listen.
I was on an emotional roller coaster when I was pregnant. Mother’s intuition is your natural instinct to know whatever it takes. Be Resolute. Whatever it takes.
I raised a very gifted child and feel so fortunate I listened to my intuition that day. That I continue to listen to my intuition, my spidey senses. But I also listen to him and his needs.
