Cooking and Baking are perfect to teach your child FUNdamentals.
We created our own imaginary cooking show in our kitchen to inspire fun in the kitchen, all while learning the basic skills needed to cook. How cooking and enjoying the fruits of your labor is fun and rewarding.
Food always tastes better when it looks nice on a plate. Remember to garnish and add a splash of colour. Get creative and make your pancakes into shapes, or just pretend they are flying saucers. Once you've mastered the art of cooking with your children you will love doing bigger projects and making grocery shopping a great adventure.
Smell everything, and your senses will come to life, not to mention build a great memory. That's the Proust effect. For us, we now have cooking and baking traditions, something to look forward to, an experience that doesn't cost any more than the food you were going to eat anyways.
"You don't need a silver fork to eat good food." Paul Prudhomme.

Change your Words. Change your World.
Children are sponges and they are amazing at not only understanding words and language at an early age, but also the context of those words.
Even 'Buddy the Elf' used ginormous words :)
Interesting article written based on a University of Chicago study, "The Early Catastrophe" on what a tremendous impact words have on children .
Eighty-six percent to 98 percent of the words recorded in each child's vocabulary consisted of words also recorded in their parents' vocabularies.
Use good descriptive words both verbally and written and your child's vocabulary will grow exponentially.
Interaction is the best form of action

You Got This, Principles of Parenting

You Got This!
If there are only three words you ever say to a child, I would recommend "You Got This"
A positive comment, which goes a long way in a child’s life. Anything you say or do becomes a habit and a natural response. That goes equally with a negative response. So when Nicholas was growing up I always minded my words. And what really stuck with me was a very simple phrase “You got this!”
So what do you think will happen if you say to your child instead of “You got this” to “You better pass” “You better get an A” “You better make a goal in soccer” “You better win the game.” Use your words wisely and keep them positive. Because as much as it’s easy to do, it’s also easy not to do. Words have amazing power with not only children but with teens and adults too. Children are amazing and they will use your words, your influence and your example to form their own persona.
I hadn’t realized until that day how much influence I had on my child. By being empathetic, positive, patient and keeping a consistent message I had created a pathway for Nicholas.

Persist Until you Succeed
Real life evolution by bringing the ocean and the interests of my son to fruition.
Expect that if want your child to try something new or old or different, you should be prepared to try it yourself.
Because we never surrender, we never give-up.
"We persist until we succeed". Og Mandino.
Scuba Diving taught us not only to rely on each other, but that there is a whole other world beneath the sea.
It was almost like we were living in an adventure movie, it was like Indiana Jones underwater...wow, that was amazing.

Art Appreciation
The importance of Art and the impact it has on personal growth, not to mention it's a great outlet to just let go!
Blue Dogs by George Rodrique was our beginning. So striking and yet so simple.
“What I do know,” Rodrigue says, “is that Blue Dog, in some form or another, will remain a presence in the hearts of the people who have come to know her – and, I hope, in the hearts of all those who may join Blue Dog in her journeys yet to come”. So I took that to mean Blue Dog could take the form in the students imagination.
"Each one an original, each one a snowflake"
"The creativity was oozing out without even a thought to interrupt the process. It was absolutely spectacular."
Tom Brokaw says: “Any appreciation of art is a subjective experience. If it moves you, lingers after you’ve walked away, makes you laugh, or simply infuses you with a good feeling, it passes the test. Blue Dog does all that. And like the best of dogs, whatever their color, she asks nothing in return. Blue dog is a reminder that there are some things in life that we should just accept on their own terms and never take for granted.”
I loved the initiative of the students. They were truly blossoming with the “new way” Art Appreciation was taking form.
Chihuly had an exhibit called: The Nature of Glass.
Ansel Adams photography impacted the students who could decide if they wanted their photographs in the Gardens to be in Colour or in Black and White.
What was truly interesting was how unique each student captured the beauty of the desert. The beauty of the desert plants in concert with the reflection of the glass works. The glass works are works of art.
We are all born with a gift;
We are all born with purpose.
Life’s journey is to hone and develop that gift;
As purpose changes within.
Thank you Nicholas, my sweet son, for your awesome music composition for the show. And remember how art always makes you feel.
Maya Angelou has a fantastic inspirational quote: “People will forget what you said. People will forget what you did. But people will never forget how you made them feel”. So true

Talent Needs Attention
In this episode we discuss the importance of knowing your child's learning technique and how I supplemented my own child's learning by honing in on his strengths and weakness'. A few quotable quotes from today's show:
"Talent, needs (ed) unwavering attention, dedication and devotion."
"Time, energy and patience ... ensure ... the proper way to do things."
Einstein says, “Example isn’t another way to teach, it’s the only way to teach.”
"You are their leader, their coach, their mentor and their lab assistant. So pay attention, experiment, discover from your child which learning style works best for them."
"No one size fits all when it comes to learning."
"I put the words he had to learn, into his world. "
"We all learn in pictures"
"Ultimate achievement."
Together we will reach a global community on how to Nurture, Coach and Inspire the children we love, at any age, develop their Genius and to let it Flourish.
We are all born with a gift;
We are all born with purpose.
Life’s journey is to hone and develop that gift;
As purpose changes within.
“Imagination is more important than Knowledge. For knowledge is limited to all we know and understand, while imagination embraces the entire world, and all there ever will be to know and understand.”
